Vivian Powell

Vivian Jean Powell passed away at the age of 72 years old on April 2, 2021 in Austin, TX. She was born August 31, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas. The third of eight children to Robert Sr. and Doreen Powell. 

Vivian was affectionately known to her family and friends as "Jean."

Jean spent most of her adult life as a resident of Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1967. Attending Donnelly College and Park University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

She was Baptized as a teenager at King Solomon Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas, which was the family’s church until they started going to the First Baptist Church in the 70’s.

Jean was truly a hard-working woman. Starting at a young age, she spent many years (18), at her first job McCurry`s Grocery. She worked at the Equal Opportunity Foundation, American Inn Motel and Providence Hospital. Vivian was a fun-loving person who never met a stranger, everybody knew her. She was loved and adored by many.

After suffering a stroke (2007) and going thru recovery therapy for several years. Jean got a chance to relocated to Texas (2014) and continued her recovery.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Doreen Powell; father, Robert Powell Sr.; sister, Teresa Smith; brother, Chester Powell, and her son, Edwin Powell. She is survived by, sister Brenda Gradford of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers, Robert Powell Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas, Clyde Powell of Manor, Texas; Fredrick Powell of Kansas City, Kansas; Bruce Powell of Federal Way, Washington.

Jean will be dearly missed by her sons, Richard Powell, and Edward Powell, both from Leander, Texas. Also, grandsons; Aaron, Edward Jr, and Zion. One Auntie, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
